How to connect to UK Fantastic

If you do not have Dial Up Networking installed, you must install it using the Add/Remove programs dialog in Control Panel .
Once you have installed this, from the Start Menu, choose Accessories, and then Dial Up Networking.

Double click on the Make New Connection icon.
Enter the name UK Fantastic and ensure that your modem is shown in the dialog box.
Then press Next .

The area code to dial is 0845 and the number specific to your modem type - then input the number provided to you on sign-up and relevent to your modem speed.  These numbers are charged as a local rate call from within the United Kingdom.

Then press Next and then Finish

Using the right hand mouse button, click on the icon for UK Fantastic and choose Properties from the menu.

Ensure that ‘Use country code and area’ code is checked.

Click the Server Type button (this is a tag at the top on Windows 98).

Clear all of the boxes apart from ‘TCP/IP’.

Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

Ensure that the ‘Server assigned IP address’ and ‘Server assigned name server addresses’ are selected.

Press OK , and OK again.

Double click on UK Fantastic and enter your user name (ukf????)  and password provided after sign-up.

You can now connect to the Internet by pressing the Connect button above. You might want to set this window as a short-cut from your desktop to make access quicker.

Now you can launch a browser and email software with access to the Internet through your new FREE connection from UK Fantastic.

Email

You’ll probably want to use email to send and receive messages. There are a number a good email software packages available which will work fine with UK Fantastic. Both Internet Explorer and Netscape Comminicator come packaged with their own. You will need the following information when setting up your email software...

Your POP3 user/account name is the ukf.... login name.

Your POP3 password.

Your email address will be your_name@ukf.net

The UK Fantastic POP3 server is pop3.ukf.net

The SMTP server is also smtp.ukf.net

News server

Being a UK Fantastic user gives you access to the UK Fantastic news server. There are no adult controls over the use of this server and parents should be aware of the nature of some material found here when children are using the Internet. The news server address is news.ukf.net.
